- For Pie
- 3/4 cup light molasses
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 6 apples, peeled and sliced
- 1/4 cup of melted butter
- 1/4 cup flour
- For Pastry for 2 crust 9 inch pie
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2/3 cup shortening
- 5 -7 tablespoons cold water
Directions

1Mix the molasses, water, lemon juice and salt in a saucepan.

2Bring to a boil.

3Add the sliced apples and simmer until the apples are tender.

4remove the apples from the syrup.

5Melt the butter in a saucepan, and blend in the flour.

6Pour this into the hot syrup and simmer, stirring constantly until the syrup is smooth and thick.

7Fold the apples into the syrup.

8Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.

9Make Pastry for 2 crust 9 inch pie by mixing shortening, salt, and flour with a fork until crumbly.

10Add 5 tablespoons water and mix well, adding more water if too dry.

11Form into a ball.

12Roll out half of it and line the pie pan, letting it hang over the edge about 1 inch.

13Fold the extra pastry over toward the middle and flute the edges with your fingers for a built up rim.

14Roll out the rest of the pastry, and cut into narrow strips for a lattice top.

15Spoon the apple syrup mixture into the pastry lined pan.

16Arrange 7 or 8 strips over the top.

17trim the ends, moisten, and press into the rim.

18Lay more strips over them.

19leaving a diamond shaped spaces, and trimming, moistening and pressing into the edge like the first ones.

20Bake the pie at 425 degrees for 30 minutes.
