Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups flour, unbleached all-purpose
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ginger ground
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 13 cup water
  • 1/2 cup raisins, seedless
  • 1 x powdered sugar

Directions

    In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter or margarine and brown sugar until mixture is light and fluffy.

    Add molasses and egg; beat well.

    Thoroughly blend flour, baking powder, ginger, salt and baking soda.

    Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with water; mix well.

    Stir in raisins.

    Pour mixture into greased 13 X 9 X 2-inch baking pan.

    Bake at 350F (180C) F for 20 to 25 minutes.

    Cool thoroughly; sift powdered sugar on the top and cut into bars.
