- 1 1/2 c. cut-up dates
- 2 Tbsp. granulated sugar
- 3/4 c. water
- 1/2 sq. unsweetened chocolate
- 1/3 c. softened butter or margarine
- 1/2 c. brown sugar
- 3/4 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 3/4 c. quick cooking oats
- 1/3 c. finely chopped nuts
Directions

1Heat oven to 400°.

2Grease a square 8 x 8 x 2-inch or 9 x 9 x 2-inch pan.

3Cook dates, granulated sugar, water and chocolate over low heat, stirring constantly about 10 minutes or until mixture thickens.

4Cool.

5Cream butter and brown sugar.

6Mix in remaining ingredients.

7Press half the mixture evenly in bottom of pan. Spread with date mixture.

8Top with remaining crumble mixture, pressing lightly.

9Bake 25 to 30 minutes.

10Cool; then cut into bars.
