  • 1/2 stick butter
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar (less for sweetened fruit)
  • 2 c. water
  • 1 1/2 c. self-rising flour
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/3 c. milk
  • 2 c. finely chopped apples
  • 1 Tbsp. cinnamon

    Melt butter in a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking dish.

    In saucepan, heat sugar and water until sugar melts.

    Make dough. Roll into a large rectangle about 1/4-inch thick.

    Sprinkle cinnamon over apples, then sprinkle apples evenly over dough. Roll up dough like cinnamon roll. Dampen edges with water and seal. Slice dough into about 16 slices 1/2-inch thick.

    Place in pan with melted butter. Pour sugar syrup carefully around rolls. Bake for 55 to 60 minutes at 350°.

    Makes 8 servings. Always use 2 cups liquid.
