- 2 1/4 c. self-rising flour, sifted
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. shortening (Crisco)
- 5 egg whites
- 3/4 c. sweet milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 2 oz. German sweet chocolate, grated
- 1 c. chopped pecans
Directions

1Cream sugar and shortening for batter.

2Add egg whites and mix well.

3Add flour, sweet milk and vanilla; beat until smooth. Grease and flour 2 (9-inch) cake pans.

4Cover bottom of pans with chopped pecans.

5Pour 1/4 of batter over pecans in each pan; sprinkle grated chocolate on top of batter in each pan.

6Carefully add remaining batter over chocolate in each pan.

7Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes.
