Ingredients

  • 1 pt. (2 c.) warm milk
  • 1 1/2 pkg. dry yeast
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 2 1/2 c. flour (approximately)
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 whole egg
  • lemon rind from 1 lemon and juice
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 3/4 c. melted shortening (I use vegetable oil)
  • 3 c. flour
  • powdered sugar icing
  • 1 1/2 to 2 c. sugar

Directions

    Let warm milk, yeast and 2 tablespoons of sugar stand until yeast comes to the top, about 5 to 10 minutes.

    Add enough flour (approximately 2 1/2 cups) for not real thin or thick. Let rise until double.

    Add egg yolks, whole egg, lemon rind and juice, salt, 3/4 cup sugar and shortening.
