- 1/2 c. butter
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 c. flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 can sauerkraut
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. cocoa
- 1 c. water
- 1 c. nuts (optional)
Directions

1Rinse sauerkraut thoroughly; cut up into small pieces.

2Cream butter and sugar.

3Beat in eggs one at a time.

4Add vanilla.

5In another bowl, sift flour, baking powder, salt, soda and cocoa. Add to creamed mixture alternately with water, beating after each addition.

6Stir in sauerkraut and nuts.

7Turn into greased and floured pans (13 x 9-inch).

8Bake at 350° for 40 to 45 minutes. Frost with sour cream frosting.
