Navy Bean Soup

Ingredients

  • 2 to 3 c. dried navy beans
  • 5 c. water
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • pepper to taste
  • 4 to 6 bacon slices
  • 2 to 3 potatoes
  • 2 to 3 carrots
  • 1 pt. tomatoes
  • 2 c. chopped ham
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 Tbsp. honey or molasses

Directions

    Bring beans and water to boil; soak overnight.

    To cook, add cooked bacon (diced) to which the onion was cooked in grease before drained and cubed raw potatoes and carrots along with tomatoes. Add ham and honey.

    Simmer for 1 1/2 to 2 hours or until done. Mash with potato masher and stir in 2 cups milk.

    Simmer for an additional 10 minutes.
