  • 2 lbs dried navy beans
  • 7 cups water
  • 1 ham bone
  • 12 lb bacon
  • 2 cups chopped ham
  • 1 cup minced onion
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 bay leaves
  • fresh ground pepper
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced

    Wash beans, soak overnight.

    Boil 2 minutes; turn off heat and let stand covered for 1 hour.

    Add all remaining ingredients; bring to boil.

    Reduce heat to low, simmer for 6 hours.

    Stir frequently.

    Remove bay leaves and ham bone beore serving.
