- 3 1/2 c. milk
- 1/4 c. butter
- 2 c. dry bread cubes
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 eggs, slightly beaten
- 1/2 c. sherry
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. mace
- 1 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 c. seedless raisins
- 1/2 c. thinly sliced citron (optional)
Directions

1Preheat oven to moderate (375°).

2Scald the milk. Add the butter and pour the hot liquid over the bread cubes. Soak about 5 minutes, then add the sugar, eggs, sherry and spices. Add the raisins and citron.

3Pour the mixture into a buttered baking dish. Set the dish in a pan of hot water and bake until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean or 1 hour.
