  • 2 c. boiling water
  • 1 c. oats
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1/2 c. molasses
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 2 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1/2 c. lukewarm water
  • 5 to 6 c. flour

Directions

    Pour boiling water over oats in a large bowl; add shortening. Cool ten minutes to lukewarm.

    Dissolve yeast in warm water and add to oat mixture.

    Add molasses and salt.

    Beat in flour gradually.

    Knead until smooth looking.

    Transfer to Pam sprayed bowl and let rise until double (about 1 hour).

    Punch down. Divide in half.

    Shape into two loaves and let rise in bread tins before baking at 325° for 40 to 50 minutes.
