Ingredients

  • 2 c. oatmeal
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 8 c. flour
  • 4 c. boiling water
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 1 c. molasses
  • 1 Tbsp. Crisco

Directions

    Pour boiling water over oatmeal in a large bowl or pot.

    Stir. Then add sugar, molasses, salt and Crisco.

    Stir and let stand until lukewarm.

    Add 4 cups of flour and yeast.

    Stir.

    Then add remaining 4 cups of flour.

    Mix thoroughly.

    Let stand until double, 3 to 4 hours.

    Stir mixture and let rise again.

    This will take less time.

    Spoon into two large greased bread pans.

    Bake at 350° for 1 to 1 1/4 hours.
