- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 1/2 c. butter, margarine or shortening
- 3/4 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and sugar in mixing bowl.

2Cut in butter or shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

3With fork, stir in buttermilk to make a soft dough.

4Turn out onto lightly floured board and knead about 10 times to form a smooth ball.

5Do not overknead or biscuits will not be tender. Roll out to a 6 x 6-inch square.

6Place on ungreased baking sheet. With knife, cut dough into 12 portions; don't separate.

7Leave biscuits in squares.

8Bake at 400° until golden, about 15 minutes.
