- 2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/3 c. shortening
- 3/4 c. milk
- 1 Tbsp. soft butter or margarine
Directions

1Sift flour, baking powder and salt together in mixing bowl. Cut in shortening with pastry blender or fork until mixture resembles coarse corn meal.

2Add milk and blend lightly with a fork until flour is moistened and dough pulls away from sides of bowl.

3Turn out on lightly floured board.

4Knead lightly for 30 seconds.

5Roll 3/4 inch thick.

6Cut with floured biscuit cutter. Place close together on lightly greased baking pan.

7Brush tops of biscuits with butter or margarine.

8Bake at 475° (very hot oven) for 12 to 15 minutes.

9Yields about 16 biscuits.
