Old-Time Peppermint Cake

  • 23 cup butter or 23 cup margarine
  • 1 23 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 12 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups unsifted all-purpose flour
  • 23 hershey's cocoa
  • 1 14 teaspoons baking soda
  • 14 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 12 cup crushed peppermint candy

Directions

    Combine butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla in large mixer bowl.

    Beat on high speed 3 minutes.

    Combine flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder and salt; Blend just until combined; add candy.

    Pour into two greased and floured 9-inch layer pans.

    Bake at 350 for 30 to 35 minutes or until cake tester inserted in center comes out clean.

    Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans.

    Cool completely; frost.

    Chocolate Cupcakes; Omit peppermint.

    Fill 30 paper-lined muffin cups (2 1/2 inches in diameter) 2/3 full with bater.
