- 3 medium onions, sliced thin
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 1 Tbsp. flour
- 2 c. consomme
- 4 c. water
- 1/4 c. boiled milk
- 1/4 lb. grated Swiss cheese
- 6 dried slices French bread
- 2 Tbsp. melted butter
Directions

1In a heavy skillet, cook onion in heated butter until slightly browned.

2Sprinkle with flour and cook over low flame until golden, never allowing them to become dark brown.

3Add consomme and water.

4Bring to boil, stirring constantly with wooden spoon, then simmer for 20 minutes, uncovered.

5Add milk.
