  • 1 (8 oz.) pkg. dates
  • 2 c. chopped pecans
  • 1 (4 oz.) can shredded coconut
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 c. buttermilk
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla
  • 1 lb. orange candy slices, cut in small pieces
  • 4 c. plain flour, sifted (1/4 c. to dredge fruits and nuts, 3 3/4 c. to mix into batter)
