Ingredients: 1 c. shortening; 2 c. sugar; 4 eggs; 1 c. dates, chopped; 1 c. walnuts, chopped; 1 c. raisins; 1 c. coconut; 2 Tbsp. orange rind; 1 1/2 c. buttermilk; 1 tsp. baking soda; 1 tsp. baking powder; 1 tsp. salt; 2 tsp. vanilla; 4 c. flour

2 c. sugar
4 eggs
1 c. dates, chopped
1 c. walnuts, chopped
1 c. raisins
1 c. coconut
2 Tbsp. orange rind
1 1/2 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. vanilla
4 c. flour

Directions

Cream shortening, sugar, eggs and orange rind.

Sift flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder and add to creamed mixture.

Add dates, nuts, raisins and coconut.

Mix well and add buttermilk and vanilla.

Bake in a large well-greased and floured tube pan.

Bake at 325° for 1 1/2 hours.

Remove from oven and mix 1/2 cup orange juice with 1 cup confectioners sugar.

Pour over the cooled cake.
