  • 1 recipe pie crust
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 3 Tbsp. vinegar
  • 1 tsp. allspice
  • 1 c. raisins
  • 4 egg whites, stiffly beaten
  • 4 egg yolks, beaten
  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 Tbsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1 c. nuts, chopped

Directions

    Beat egg whites; set aside. Mix all other ingredients together and then fold in egg whites last. Pour into unbaked pie shell (unless a large 9 or 10-inch shell is used, this will make 2 pies). Bake in slow oven at 300° for 45 minutes to 1 hour. The meringue comes to the top and the cinnamon makes it a nice brown topping for the pie.
