Pears Cooked in Wine

- 6 Pears; with stems
- 1 3
- 4 cups Water
- 2 cups Sugar
- 2 tbsp. Lemon juice
- 6 tbsp. Port wine
- 2 Cloves

Directions

1Slice ginger and then julienne it into thin strips.

2Pour the water into a saucepan large enough to hold the 6 pears side by side.

3Add the sugar, the ginger, the lemon juice,the clove and the cinnamon.

4Stir until sugar is dissolved.

5Let cook 5 minutes.

6Strain and bring to boil again.

7Peel pears leaving 1-inch of the stems.

8Cut off a slice in the bottom so pears can stand upright.

9Place pears in the boiling liquid and cook 30 minutes until tender.

10Add 5 tbsp.

11wine and cook another 10 minutes.

12Tranfer pears to a serving dish or individual dishes.

13Let liquid in pan reduce to 2 cups.

14Add 1 more tbsp.

15wine.

16Pour sauce over pears.

17Serve with ice cream.
