- 1/2 c. butter, softened
- 2/3 c. granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp. peppermint extract
- 1/2 c. margarine, softened
- 1 egg
- 2 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
- red and white ready-to-pipe icing (for decoration)
Directions

1In large bowl, beat butter, margarine and sugar with electric mixer until pale and fluffy.

2Beat in egg and peppermint extract. Stir in flour until blended.

3If dough is too soft to hold shape, chill 15 to 30 minutes.

4Using a pastry bag fitted with plain #4 tube, pipe dough in 4-inch cane shapes, 1 inch apart, onto ungreased cookie sheet.

5Bake at 400° for 8 to 10 minutes, until edges are light golden.

6Remove to rack to cool.

7Decorate with icing.

8Store airtight.
