Ingredients

  • 1 c. cocoa
  • 2 c. boiling water
  • 1 c. butter, softened
  • 2 1/2 c. sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Directions

    Combine cocoa and water, stirring until smooth. Set aside. Cream the butter, gradually adding sugar. Beating at medium speed with mixer, add eggs one at a time.

    Beat in flour, soda, baking powder and salt. Stir in vanilla. Do not overbeat.

    Pour batter into 3 greased and floured 9-inch cake pans and bake at 350° for 20 to 25 minutes. Cool in pans 10 minutes. Remove from pans and cool completely.
