Ingredients

  • 4 large onions
  • 2 green sweet peppers
  • 1/4 c. salt
  • 4 c. vinegar
  • 4 c. sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. powdered cloves
  • 4 tsp. mustard seed
  • 4 1/2 lb. okra

Directions

    Grind onions and sweet peppers together.

    Use coarse blade. Add salt.

    Place in colander to drain; cover with a weight.

    Leave for 3 hours.

    Set vinegar, sugar and spices in large vessel.

    Stir until sugar is dissolved.

    Cut stems off okra and add to mixed liquid and ground vegetables.

    Heat to almost boil.

    Stir to keep from sticking.

    Put in jar and seal.

    Should set 3 or 4 months before using.
