  • 1 lb. ground salt pork
  • 2 c. boiling coffee
  • 1 lb. raisins
  • 1/4 lb. citron
  • 1 c. currants
  • 2 c. brown sugar
  • 1 c. molasses
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 3 eggs, well beaten
  • 6 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. cloves
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • nuts (if desired)

Directions

    Grind raisins and citron together.

    Pour boiling coffee over ground salt pork; add raisins and citron and stir well.

    Add brown sugar and beaten eggs.

    Stir baking soda into molasses and add to batter.

    Sift flour with remaining dry ingredients and stir into batter (add more flour if needed).

    Bake in two greased loaf pans at 325° or until done.
