  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 c. warm mashed potatoes
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 c. plain flour
  • 4 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. chopped nuts

Directions

  1. 1
    Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs, one at a time, and beat well after each addition. Add potatoes. Put in sifted dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk. Add vanilla and nuts. Bake in 2 or 3 layers at 300° until inserted toothpick comes out clean.
