- 3 c. sugar
- water (enough to make 1 c. when mixed with milk)
- 1 1/2 c. butter
- 1 Tbsp. vanilla
- 1 Tbsp. lemon juice
- 1 small can evaporated milk
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 5 large eggs
- 3 c. flour
Directions

1Cream the shortening, sugar and salt.

2Add eggs, one at a time.

3Add flour and milk alternately, ending with flour.

4Fold in flavoring by hand.

5Bake in a greased tube pan for 1 hour and 45 minutes at 325°.

6Start cake in a cold oven.

7Don't open the door while cooking.
