Prune Cake

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 c. butter (or shortening)
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. allspice
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • 1 c. cooked, seeded prunes
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 3/4 tsp. baking powder

    Sift flour once.

    Add baking soda and spices then sift 3 times.

    Cream butter thoroughly, add sugar gradually and cream together until light and fluffy.

    Add eggs and prunes.

    Then add flour alternately with milk, a small amount at a time.

    Beat well after each addition.

    Bake in two layer pans at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes.

    Spread caramel frosting between layers and on top and sides.

    May also be served unfrosted.
