- 2 c. sifted flour
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 3/4 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3/4 c. brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 c. soft shortening
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 3 eggs (1/2 to 2/3 c.)
- 1/2 c. cut up nuts
- 1/2 c. cut up raisins
Directions

1Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, soda and salt.

2Add brown sugar, shortening and buttermilk.

3Beat 2 minutes and then add eggs.

4Beat 2 more minutes.

5Fold in nuts and raisins.

6Pour into prepared pans.

7Bake until cake tests done.

8Cool.

9Spread with Egyptian filling.

10Bake at 350° (moderate oven) for 30 to 35 minutes for layers, 35 to 40 minutes for oblong cake.
