Ingredients
- 1 c. unbleached flour
- 3 Tbsp. brown sugar
- 1 tsp. allspice
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 egg
- 1/2 c. raisins, chopped
- 1 c. whole wheat flour
- 2 Tbsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 c. cold butter or margarine
- 3/4 c. buttermilk
Directions

1In a mixing bowl, combine flours, sugar, baking powder, allspice, soda and salt. Cut butter into small pieces and work into flour with a pastry blender.

2Beat eggs with buttermilk and stir into mixture along with raisins.

3Turn dough out onto a floured board and knead for 2 minutes.

4Shape into 2 thick circles, 5 inches each in diameter.

5Cut each into quarters and place together in circles on a lightly greased baking sheet.

6Bake in a preheated 400° oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until nicely browned. Makes 8 scones.
