- 1 (4 to 5 lb.) chicken

Directions

1Heat oven to 450°.

2Unwrap chicken and remove giblets from cavity.

3Thoroughly rinse chicken inside and out.

4Place bird on roasting pan with shallow sides (no higher than 1-inch) and place in oven.

5Bake for 30 minutes.

6Reduce heat to 400° and bake 15 to 25 minutes more or until the thigh meat registers 160° on a meat thermometer or the juices of thigh run clear when poked with a fork.

7Remove from oven.

8Let stand 10 to 20 minutes before carving.

9Serve with baked potatoes and cooked green beans or salad.
