- 1 c. milk (scalded)
- 1 Tbsp. salt
- 2 Tbsp. shortening
- 3 Tbsp. dark molasses
- 1 c. lukewarm water
- 4 c. flour (sifted)
- 1 1/2 c. rye flour (unsifted)
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 cake compressed yeast
Directions

1Combine scalded milk, salt, sugar, shortening and molasses. Cool to lukewarm.

2Soften yeast in 1 cup of lukewarm water and add to milk mixture.

3Blend in all flour and knead dough on floured board.

4To obtain a fine grain, knead about 7 minutes.

5Place dough in greased bowl and cover.

6Let rise in a warm place for about 1 1/2 hours.
