Ingredients
- 3 c. flour
- 2 Tbsp. white corn meal
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 c. milk
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 Tbsp. shortening
Directions

1Scald milk.

2Cool until lukewarm.

3Add sugar, shortening, salt and corn meal.

4Place in quart fruit jar.

5Set in water, 120°.

6Let stand 6 to 7 hours until fermentation can be noted.

7Add 1 1/2 cups flour to make sponge.

8Beat vigorously.
-
9Set the sponge in water, 120°, until very light.

10Add remaining flour to make dough stiff enough to knead.

11Knead for 10 minutes.

12Place immediately in greased baking pan.

13Let stand until double in bulk and bake.

14Bake at 400° for 50 minutes.

15This is heavier than other bread.

16Makes very good toast.
