  • 2 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp. crushed fennel seed
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 6 Tbsp. butter, chilled
  • 4 Tbsp. Crisco, chilled
  • 5 to 6 Tbsp. ice water
  • 4 tsp. Dijon mustard or honey mustard
  • 1 precooked sausage (1 1/2 lb.), cut in half
  • 1 egg yolk, mixed with 1 Tbsp. water

    Combine flour, fennel and salt in bowl.

    Preheat oven to 350°. Cut butter and shortening into pieces and add to flour.

    Use pastry cutter to cut to coarse texture.

    Add ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time, and toss with fork until mixture forms a ball.

    Makes 2 balls.

    Cover with plastic wrap and chill for 30 minutes.
