  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 3 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 4 egg whites

Directions

    Heat oven to 350°.

    Grease and flour 9 x 13-inch pan or 2 round pans.

    Beat flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, shortening, milk and vanilla in large mixer bowl on low speed, scraping constantly.

    Add egg whites; beat on high, scraping occasionally. Bake until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean in 9 x 13-inch pan; bake 35 to 40 minutes; in round pans bake 30 to 35 minutes.

    Cool and frost.
