- 14 cup vegetable shortening
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1 cup flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 12 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1 egg
Directions

1Preheat oven to 425 F degrees.

2Melt shortening over medium heat in a 10 inch cast iron fry pan for 3 minutes.

3Mix dry ingredients in a bowl.

4Add milk and egg.

5Mix well.

6Quickly stir in hot melted shortening to batter.

7Pour batter into hot skillet.

8Bake in hot oven for 20-25 minutes.
