  • 3 c. sifted cake flour
  • 1 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 3/4 c. vegetable shortening
  • 1/2 almond flavoring
  • 1 c. chopped hickory nuts
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. milk
  • 6 egg whites, beaten stiff

    Sift flour, salt and baking powder together 6 times.

    Cream sugar, shortening, vanilla and almond flavoring.

    Add milk alternately with flour mixture to creamed mixture.

    Fold in hickory nuts, then egg whites.

    Bake in two greased and floured 9-inch cake pans for 25 to 30 minutes at 375°.
