- 1 1/2 c. warm water
- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 1 egg yolk
- 1/2 tsp. sugar
- 4 1/2 c. flour
- 1 to 2 tsp. water or milk
- coarse salt
Directions

1Mix the water, yeast and sugar in a large mixing bowl and let stand for 1 hour.

2Then mix in flour.

3Knead mixture for about 10 minutes.

4Preheat oven for 5 minutes to warm it, then turn off heat.

5Place mixture in a greased bowl.

6Cover it and place in the warmed oven for about 1 hour until the mixture doubles.

7When it has doubled, make twists.

8Place twists on a greased baking sheet not too close together.

9Dilute 1 egg yolk with 1 to 2 teaspoons water or milk.

10Run a thin coat of liquid around outside of each pretzel.

11Sprinkle with coarse salt.

12Bake in a preheated oven at 475° for 12 to 15 minutes until they are golden brown.

13Yields about 2 dozen.
