- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 Tbsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 Tbsp. shortening
- 2/3 c. warm water
Directions

1Stir together the flour, baking powder and salt.

2Cut in shortening until mixture resembles cornmeal.

3Gradually add the water, stirring with a fork (dough will be crumbly).

4Turn onto a floured surface and knead into a soft ball.

5Divide the dough in half and let stand 10 minutes.

6Roll each half into a 12 x 10-inch rectangle and cut into 2 1/2-inch squares. (Do not re-roll or patch dough.)

7Deep fry a few at a time in fat until golden brown. Drain on paper towels and serve with Honey Butter or roll in cinnamon and sugar.
