  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1/2 lb. Italian sausage, cubed (mild or hot)
  • 1 Tbsp. butter
  • 2 c. celery, sliced
  • 1 c. black olives, sliced
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 clove garlic, pressed
  • 2 c. mushrooms, sliced (5 c.)
  • 3 1/2 lb. tomato sauce
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/2 tsp. red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 tsp. basil, marjoram and oregano
  • 1/16 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp. cumin and rosemary
  • 1/2 Tbsp. chives and parsley

    Brown ground beef and Italian sausage; set aside.

    Melt butter; add celery and olives.

    Cook on medium-high for about 20 minutes. Add onion and garlic and cook about 5 minutes.

    Add mushrooms and bay leaf; cook about 5 minutes.

    Add tomato sauce, ground beef, Italian sausage and all spices, except chives and parsley.

    Cook for a while so spices go through sauce.
