Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 c. bread crumbs
  • 1/4 c. chopped fresh parsley or 1 Tbsp. dry parsley
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 28 oz. can whole tomatoes, cut up
  • 6 oz. can tomato paste
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. fennel seed, crushed
  • 1/2 tsp. basil leaves
  • 1/4 tsp. marjoram leaves
  • 1/4 tsp. thyme leaves
  • 1/8 tsp. oregano leaves
  • 1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper

Directions

    Combine first 6 ingredients for meatballs.

    Shape into balls. Brown in small amount of oil in Dutch oven.

    Add remaining ingredients to meatballs in Dutch oven.

    Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer, covered, for 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Serve over spaghetti with Parmesan cheese.
