Split Pea Soup

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. green split peas
  • 2 1/2 qt. water
  • 1 meaty ham bone
  • 1 1/2 c. diced onion
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. garlic salt
  • 1/4 tsp. marjoram
  • 1 c. diced celery
  • 1 c. diced carrots
  • 1 tsp. parsley flakes
  • salt to taste

Directions

    Cover peas with water and soak overnight.

    Drain.

    Add the water, ham bone, onion and seasonings.

    Bring to a boil.

    Cover and let simmer for 2 hours.

    Remove bone and cut off meat. Return meat to soup; add remaining ingredients.

    Cook slowly for 45 minutes.
