Ingredients

  • 8 slices white bread, crust removed (I use Pepperidge Farm)
  • 2 to 3 Tbsp. butter, softened
  • 1/3 c. butter or margarine
  • 1/3 lb. fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 1/3 c. thinly sliced yellow onions
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 lb. mild bulk sausage
  • 1/2 lb. Cheddar cheese, grated
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 3/4 tsp. dry mustard
  • 3/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 2 Tbsp. finely chopped fresh parsley
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper

Directions

    Butter 1 side of the bread with softened butter and set aside. Melt 1/3 cup butter and brown mushrooms and onions over medium heat for 5 to 8 minutes or until tender.

    Season to taste with salt and pepper; drain and set aside.
