Ingredients

  • 2 c. sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 c. Crisco
  • 1 1/2 c. sour milk
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 4 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Directions

    Mix sugar, eggs, Crisco, baking soda, baking powder, cream of tartar, nutmeg and vanilla together.

    Add 1 cup flour and 1/2 cup sour milk.

    Alternate between two until all used.

    Bake 1 cookie to test for flour content.

    If spreading occurs, add a small amount more flour until firm when baked.

    Sprinkle top with sugar before baking.

    Bake at 375° until done.
