Ingredients

  • 1 7/8 cups milk
  • 7/8 cup powdered sugar
  • 7 tablespoons unsalted butter softened
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 2/3 tablespoons fresh yeast
  • 5 cups wheat flour
  • salt
  • vegetable oil for frying

    Heat the milk just to warm.

    Beat the sugar with the butter and the eggs.

    Put the yeast in a bowl, and dissolve with little of warm milk, mixing with your fingertips. Add to the remaining milk, and mix well.

    In a large bowl, mix the flour with a pinch of salt. Make a hole in the center of the flour, and gradually, pour in the milk and yeast mixture. Stir until obtaining a homogeneous dough.

    Cover with a cloth, and let rest in a warm place for about 45 minutes.

    Heat the oil in a skillet, and drop in spoonfuls of dough.

    Fry for 3 to 4 minutes, or until golden.

    Remove, drain on paper towels, and coat with powdered sugar.
