- 3 c. sugar
- 1 1/2 c. shortening
- 2 eggs
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 2 tsp. soda
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 8 c. all-purpose flour
Directions

1Combine all ingredients except flour.

2Alternate flour with a mixture of other ingredients until a thick dough is formed.

3Roll out dough on a cookie board to 1/4-inch thick.

4Cut into squares. Place on a cookie sheet that is ungreased.

5Bake at 300° for 15 to 20 minutes, or until browned.

6Frost or serve plain.

7Makes about 7 dozen large tea cakes.

8Recipe may be halved, if desired.
