Ingredients

  • 5 c. flour (all-purpose)
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 3/4 c. warm water (only as warm as your hand can stand)

    Mix flour, salt, baking powder and shortening together.

    Pour small amount of warm water into flour.

    Knead flour together. Only add enough water to where the flour stays together and forms a ball.

    Preheat wrought iron skillet or some form of baking utensil on top of the stove.

    Make small, round balls; roll out with rolling pin into a circle.

    Cook in wrought iron skillet at a medium to high flame.

    Cook on both sides.

    Flip tortillas with tongs or fork.

    Serves 6 to 8 persons.
