Ingredients

  • 1 (11 1/2 oz.) pkg. milk chocolate chips
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 30 caramels
  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • 2 Tbsp. water
  • 1 c. coarsely chopped peanuts

Directions

    Over hot (not boiling) water, melt chips and shortening until smooth.

    Remove from heat and pour half of mixture in foil-lined 8-inch square pan, spread evenly.

    Refrigerate until firm (about 15 minutes).

    Return chocolate to hot water.

    Over boiling water, melt caramels, butter and water.

    Stir until smooth.

    Stir in nuts. Pour over chocolate in pan.

    Spread evenly.

    Refrigerate until tacky (15 minutes).

    Top with remaining chocolate; spread evenly. Return to refrigerator until firm (about 1 hour).

    Cut and refrigerate until ready to serve.
