- 3 lb. ground venison
- 2 lb. ground beef
- 3 Tbsp. shortening
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 large onions, chopped
- 1 qt. water
- 2 (No. 2) cans tomatoes
- 1 Tbsp. salt
- 1 1/2 tsp. black pepper
- 6 Tbsp. chili powder
- 1 1/2 tsp. oregano
- 1 1/2 tsp. cumin
- 3 Tbsp. paprika
Directions

1Brown venison and beef in shortening in a large heavy pot, over moderate heat.

2Add garlic and onions.

3Cook until golden, stirring frequently.

4Add water and tomatoes.

5Reduce heat to low.

6Cover loosely and simmer for 3 hours.

7Add seasonings and cook 1 hour or longer.

8Serve at once or let stand, covered, overnight in refrigerator.

9Reheat.

10Makes 8 to 12 servings.
