  • 1/2 c. Crisco
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 2 oz. red food coloring
  • 1 tsp. vinegar
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 2 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Directions

    Sift flour and sugar into mixing bowl.

    Add Crisco, coloring, vanilla and 2/3 cup buttermilk.

    Blend well. Add eggs and rest of milk.

    Beat 1 minute by mixer.

    Mix vinegar and soda to cake and blend by hand.

    Bake in loaf or layers at 350°.
