  • 1 1/2 c. white chocolate, grated
  • 1/2 c. boiling water
  • 2/3 c. Crisco
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 tsp. soda in buttermilk
  • 2 1/2 c. cake flour
  • 6 egg whites, beaten stiffly

    Set the first 2 ingredients aside to cool.

    Cream Crisco and sugar well; add egg yolks one at a time.

    Add cooled chocolate mixture.

    Add milk and flour alternately using with flour.

    Add egg whites.

    Add to batter 1 cup coconut and cup pecans (optional).

    Bake in 3 layers at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes.
